Under normal circumstances, an announcement that a Lord Mountainash has bought Runnymeade Castle would not create a stir but, when the Lord in question is also General Secretary of a trade union, then true blue Tories are aghast. These Tories include Mountainash's resident butler Wordsworth and Lady Thaxted who lives in a cottage within the castle's vast 4,000 acre grounds. But if the Lord were to feel comfortable in the regal pile he shares with his daughter Annie, then he is soon brought back to earth by Elizabeth 'Red Betty' Steel, the militant general secretary of the union.
