Alf is indignant when he comes home late from work to find an empty house and his dinner incinerated in the oven. When Else and Rita return he is advised that Mike is at the chip shop and if he gets to the phone he can get his order in as well. But his attempts to use the public phone box are thwarted by inconsiderate neighbours and people calling the box...
