The Walshes interview

An interview with Diet of Worms. "It was very polite of Graham Linehan to humour us..."

Michael Curle, Chortle, 12th March 2014

Yes, yes, we know - it's another family sitcom. But we wouldn't write The Walshes off just yet, since it comes from the mind of Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd creator Graham Lineham. If he can create beloved comedy programmes out of set ups like 'a grouchy man runs a terrible bookshop' and 'a load of nerds do nerdy things in a basement', then we're sure he's had plenty of fun playing with Irish family stereotypes.

The Walshes of the title are a husband and wife in West Dublin still living with their grown up children, one of whom is preparing, with dread, to introduce her nervy new boyfriend to the family. Miss this, and you'll be a bit of an eejit...

Meet the Walshes

The Walshes is a new Irish sitcom, a BBC/RTÉ co-production, about a close-knit, working class Dublin family with a penchant for toilet humour.

Graham Linehan: The Walshes is no Mrs Brown's Boys

The Father Ted creator is hoping his new sitcom The Walshes will not be compared with Brendan O'Carroll's hit - and says he was "never really a big fan" of O'Carroll's work.
