The Trip To Spain, Episode 5 - Parador de Almagro

The Trip. Image shows from L to R: Rob (Rob Brydon), Steve (Steve Coogan)
In La Mancha, Steve and Rob dress the part as Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, before treading the boards at the Corral de Comedias.

Further details

Heading into the La Mancha region, Steve dons the period armour of Don Quixote while Rob plays the supporting role of Sancho Panza for a publicity photoshoot. After lunch in Almagro, the pair visit the Corral de Comedias - a theatre dating back to Cervantes' times, and the perfect location to recite Shakespeare. Along with some Al Pacino impressions.

Location Guide

Heading into the area of natural beauty that is La Mancha region south of Madrid, this may be the perfect time to visit the traditional windmills that were immortalised in Miguel de Cervantes' landmark novel Don Quixote. You may even want to dress the part as the titular hidalgo and his supporting player Sancho Panza.

On arriving in Almagro, don't waste the opportunity to sample the manchego cheese - made with milk from the local manchega sheep and aged between 60 days and two years. The main attraction for foodies, however, is the Parador de Almagro. Located in what was once the Santa Catalina Monastery, there you can sample regional dishes from La Mancha with a creative touch.

Before you leave Almagro, be sure to tread the boards at the Corral de Comedias at the centre of the city. Dating back to Cervantes' times, it's an emblem of the Golden Age of Spanish theatre, and the perfect place to practise Shakespearean verse - or, if you will, Al Pacino impressions. Then it's time to head to Granada to begin the final leg of your trip.

Press

A publicity photoshoot in La Mancha in Don Quixote and Sancho Panza costume sees Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon continuing to tilt not so much at windmills but one other, in the penultimate episode. While Bowie and Jagger get an airing over lunch, a conversation about the Spanish Moors swiftly turns into an elongated (and hysterically funny) riff on the influence of Roger Moore on Spanish heritage; and Steve receives startling news from home.
