Peter Richardson has clearly watched cable TV in many a seedy hotel, poor soul, idly playing with his remote - as which of us has not - when he got the idea for The Glam Metal Detectives (BBC2). You could say he has struck a chord. This is an electronic breakthrough comparable to the pop-up toaster. It saves the viewer all the bother of flickering through the channels by flicking for him.
