Rare archive material and interviews with those who know him best, including Michael Grade, Bradley Walsh, Marty Wilde, Marti Webb and Bill Kenwright, give an insight into this most private of stars, a man who left school at age 15 to join the merchant navy with no dreams of showbusiness and yet went on to be knighted by the Queen.
