Pilot (1969)

The series debuted in 1969 as part of the Comedy Playhouse strand. Beryl and Dawn work at a big department store and share a flat together.

Series 1 (1969)

Series 1 sees Beryl, a zany, go-getting woman of the world, sharing a flat with the somewhat more subdued Dawn.

Series 2 (1971)

From Series 2 Sandra is Beryl's flatmate, a hopelessly naive and virtuous romantic. They pursue men for differing reasons and jobs for the same - money! But everywhere they go, chaos reigns.

Series 4 (1974)

From the fourth series onwards, Carla Lane was the only writer, and there was more emphasis on the characters' relationships.

Series 5 (1975)

Beryl having married her boyfriend Robert and moved out, Sandra soon has a new flatmate, Carol.

Series 7 (1976)

Another series of 9 episodes (including a Christmas special) followed later in the year.

Series 8 (1977)

Sandra falls in love with, gets engaged to and marries Derek, a vet at the Kennels she works at.

Series 9 (1978)

The ninth series sees Sandra and Derek living in their new home. They soon have a lodger.

Series 10 (1996)

The series was revived in 1996, but with Beryl instead of Carol. Sandra is living with her mother and needs a new tenant, while Beryl is divorced, unemployed and looking for a new flat.
