If the kids won't leave home, then maybe the parents had better flee the nest themselves. Anne and Geoffrey Dickens have had just about enough of the rowdy world of youth.
Their three kids - aged 18, 19 and 20 - have driven them to distraction with their loud music, strange fashions and independent behaviour, so they decide to move out.
They end up 70 miles from home, living in a run-down basement flat. However, their attempts to settle down and start a new life prove far from easy.
