Set on a Black Country housing estate in the steamy summer of 1975, Gordon Grimley, a sensitive 16-year-old dreams of escaping his factory fate and going to university. But Gordon has a big hurdle to climb - Doug Digby, the games teacher, who makes the Marquis de Sade look like Mother Teresa.
