Portrait of the artist: Russell Howard

Is there anything about your career you regret? Doing backstage presenting at The Brits in 2008. I didn't really want to be there: I just don't care what people like Lily Allen think about stuff. But I know that some people do care, so I couldn't just slouch through it.

Good News remains a rare gem amongst BBC3 dross

Russell Howard's Good News kicked off its new series with an episode that saw the best and worst features of previous installments of the show return to amuse and annoy us in equal measure.

Rachel Tarley, Metro, 28th October 2011

This is the fifth series of the stupendously successful topical comedy show, which has regularly seen its host top the Twitter trending charts and made him the third most Googled comedian in Britain. Russell Howard is loveable and sharp as he riffs off the week's biggest and daftest stories, reminding you just how much he's missed on Mock The Week.

Colin Kennedy, Metro, 27th October 2011

Talk to anyone in the know about this show and the word "most" crops up a lot. It's BBC3's most successful entertainment series. It's routinely one of the most watched shows on iPlayer. And he's the most-trended Twitter topic whenever his show airs.

If the phrase "most funniest" was actually grammatically correct, that could be inserted, too, because Good News is a treat; a sillier version of Have I Got News for You. And don't let the fact that Howard looks about 12 put you off; he's grown-up and very clever. The format is a tried and trusted one: Howard will take a look at the week's news to bring us the daftest stories.

Gav's trip to Russell Howard's Good News

Hello, I'm Gav. I'm the bloke who talks between the programmes on BBC Three. Occasionally the bosses let us out of our cupboard - sorry I mean studio - to go and visit some of our shows. So I went along to watch Russell Howard's Good News being recorded last week. This is what happened...
