Why I believe in Rev Adam Smallbone
I have to declare an interest here. I'm not involved in the show. But I do go to church. In fact, I'm on my local PCC.
James Cary, Sitcom Geek, 3rd July 2010Review: Rev 1x1
Is it any good? I'd actually say yes to this one. Although it's very similar to shows like Outnumbered where most of the comedy comes from the ineffectual nature of the main character(s), Rev manages to tread the fine line between making the characters real and being too reverential very well.
Rob Buckley, The Medium Is Not Enough, 2nd July 2010New Statesman review
Rev is a sitcom about the vicar of an inner-city parish. It's not particularly funny. It's sweet, it made me smile, but it certainly didn't have me falling off the sofa. All the same, I like it a lot.
Rachel Cooke, The New Statesman, 1st July 2010Rev review
Unfortunately, despite a winning cast and some style that marked Rev out as more comedy-drama than Dibley-esque sitcom, the laughs were few and far between.
Dan Owen, Dan's Media Digest, 30th June 2010Last Night's TV - Rev, BBC2
They're not rolling in the aisles yet.
Brian Viner, The Independent, 29th June 2010Last night's TV: Rev
Rev looks quite promising, in a gentle kind of way. Tom Hollander's is an attractive character - beset by troubles and doubts, weak, but a good guy at heart.
Sam Wollaston, The Guardian, 29th June 2010TV ratings: BBC2 sitcom Rev draws 2m
Rev, starring Tom Hollander as a vicar in east London, secures 10.7% audience share to beat Big Brother.
Jason Deans, The Guardian, 29th June 2010Rev review
Rev has got a first-rate cast but it falls down on one big hurdle: it just isn't very funny. A few smirks and one or two chuckles, maybe, but certainly no guffaws.
Tom Murphy, Orange TV, 29th June 2010Tom Hollander in Rev - review
Despite having a fantastic cast, a likeable lead and a premise that has comedic potential, Rev has few laughs yet somehow isn't a crashing disappointment.
Steven Cookson, Suite 101, 29th June 2010The eroticism of the Church of England
The BBC's new sitcom, Rev, is a surprisingly realistic picture about the sexual undercurrents of normal Christianity.
