Series 5 - A Royal Flush

Only Fools And Horses. Image shows from L to R: Del (David Jason), Uncle Albert (Buster Merryfield), Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst). Copyright: BBC
Rodney meets an upper-crust young lady selling paintings down the market and they instantly hit it off. However, when Del finds out that she's Lady Victoria of Malebury, whose father is a cousin of the Queen, he begins to plot the couple's wedding.

Further details

Rodney meets Vicky, a seemingly impoverished artist who it transpires is the daughter of the Duke of Maylebury, one of the Queen's second-cousins.

Having obtained a pair of tickets to the sold-out production of Carmen, Rodders seems to have deeply impressed Vicky. She is less taken by the sudden appearance of Del and his peroxide blonde dolly bird however - especially when they open the dolly mixture.

Vicky invites Rodney to a party at the Duke's country home, and it seems romance may be on the cards. But then Del Boy turns up, hits the vino-plonko and callously, drunkenly ruins everything for his little brother.

Notes

A full 15 minutes are cut from repeats this episode's original DVD release, as John Sullivan deemed the original edit to be a rare misfire for the series, seeing Del being actively cruel towards Rodney and suffering from a lack of studio audience laughter or atmosphere.
