Victor is on jury service and ends up waiting around at home all day to be called up for a case...

Victor is serving Jury service, and, not assigned to a case, spends the day moping about the house philosophising about the various misfortunes of life whilst waiting for the phone to ring with a call-up. He argues with God for causing it to rain when he wants to keep himself occupied in the garden; he also self-diagnoses a wide range of medical ailments and horrifies himself with a page from his medical encyclopaedia about zip fastener injuries.

However, that's nothing compared to his incredulousness upon discovering what the garden centre delivery man did with his new plant, nor the shock of cutting open a very ordinary looking new loaf of bread.
