Further details
Out of nowhere, Margaret suffers a blackout and the doctor diagnoses nervous exhaustion - something that has apparently been building up for thirty-five years! Victor's nursing of his wife does little to help; on the contrary, when he tries to be nice and quiet and keep the house in a good condition, he ends up making an almighty racket and disturbing her more than ever.
When his domestic attempts end with an iron burning an unfortunate pattern straight through one of Margaret's dresses, she decides it's time to return to work to get a bit of rest!
In the meantime, Nick drops by to fix the Meldrews' new waste disposal unit but ends up putting his back out in the process, and laid out on their kitchen floor overnight before a specialist can arrive to help.
