Lee Mack's hit sitcom Not Going Out returns soon, with the tantalising tagline "Will they or won't they... the time has come to finally find out."

The new 10-part 7th series has now been scheduled, starting Friday nights later in October.

The show, which is currently the BBC's longest running sitcom, will continue to follow the ill-thought-out plans and mishaps of Lee as he desperately tries to impress long-suffering landlady and object of his affection, Lucy (Sally Bretton).

As ever, uber-ditzy friend Daisy (Katy Wix) is on hand to offer her usually unsolicited and always completely unique take on events, while Lee's dad (Bobby Ball) and Lucy's parents only ever seem to result in him further tying himself in ever-more-complicated knots.

This new series also introduces new neighbours Toby (played by Outnumbered star Hugh Dennis) and Anna (Benidorm's Abigail Cruttenden). The well-heeled couple soon experience that sharing a building with Lee and Lucy is anything but straightforward.

Highlights in this new series include an emasculated Lee feeling forced to prove his masculinity again... and again, to a more disappointed than usual Lucy; Lee and Lucy making every wrong decision humanly possible in the bid to find the perfect present for their new neighbours; Lee wrestling with Lucy's desire to have a child with another man; and when Lee joins Daisy to compete on the hit TV show Pointless (yes, really!) how could he fail to prove his intellectual prowess to Lucy?

The will-they-won't-they tension between Lee and Lucy reaches unseen new highs in an epic series finale for Christmas which sees the character in previously uncharted emotional water.

Series 7 starts on BBC One on Friday 17th October.
