Jimmy Carr's Am I The A**hole? arrives at Comedy Central

- Comedy Central has ordered Jimmy Carr's Am I The A**hole?, in which comedians judge members of the public on their behaviour
- Inspired by the popular Reddit subreddit of the same name, the show will "cover everything from jaw-dropping relationship disputes to the pettiest of family squabbles"
- Carr said: "I'm very much looking forward to being Comedy Central's Proctologist in Residence. There are an impressive number of a**holesĀ in our country and they're finally getting the recognition they deserve on national television"
Jimmy Carr is to host a new show on Comedy Central in which comedians pass judgment on members of the public, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
Jimmy Carr's Am I The A**hole?, inspired by the popular Reddit subreddit of the same name, will feature Carr and two guest comics asking "hilarious, controversial and downright shocking" questions about people's behaviour.
Shooting in late spring to air later this year, the eight hour-long episodes promise to "cover everything from jaw-dropping relationship disputes to the pettiest of family squabbles", with stories "guaranteed to split opinion".
With Carr passing final judgement on whether participants are an "a**hole" or not, he reflected: "Seems odd that anyone would ask me to host a show about a**holes. I should be grateful, but I feel a little insulted. I guess I'm an a**hole. Well, it takes an a**hole to know an a**hole so I'm the right man for the job.
"I'm very much looking forward to being Comedy Central's Proctologist in Residence. There are an impressive number of a**holesĀ in our country and they're finally getting the recognition they deserve on national television."
As BCG previously revealed, Comedy Central shot a non-broadcast pilot of Am I The A**hole? with Rob Beckett as host in December. No official reason for Carr replacing Beckett has been shared by the channel, but the latter is currently on tour with his stand-up show Giraffe.
Carr, who recently hosted hit reality series Last One Laughing UK for Amazon Prime and is expected to return for the 27th series of Channel 4's long-running panel show 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, previously rated the public's looks on comedy gameshow Your Face Or Mine, which he presented with June Sarpong on E4 between 2002 and 2003. The show was revived by Comedy Central in 2017 and ran for six series with Carr hosting alongside Katherine Ryan.
He also piloted Judge Jimmy for Channel 4 in 2016, in which he presided over the public's disputes. This became Judge Romesh on Dave in 2018, with Romesh Ranganathan in the sentencing role, alongside Tom Davis and Kerry Howard for the first series and Jessica Knappett taking over from Howard in the second.
Jimmy Carr's Am I The A**hole? is produced by Mia Cross (Your Face Or Mine, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown) for Tuesday's Child (Guessable?, Ghost Bus Tours). The executive producers are Steph Harris for Tuesday's Child, Iestyn Barker for Comedy Central UK and Marc Beaulac, creator of the Am I The A**hole? subreddit.
The series was commissioned for Comedy Central UK by Luke Hales, senior vice president content & brand strategy, MTV Entertainment Studios UK, Australia & Canada. The format rights are licensed globally by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
"Am I the A**hole? is only a question you ask if you're convinced you're right in an argument, but will our guests get the answer they're hoping for when they share awkward real-life scenarios with comedians who pull no punches in delivering judgements?" said Harris.
"Our new format has found the perfect home at Comedy Central, and the perfect host in the incomparable Jimmy Carr, and is guaranteed to deliver bucketloads of brutally honest, hilarious a**holery."
Barker added: "We're thrilled to have Jimmy Carr back on Comedy Central UK, in charge of sorting right from wrong in this hilarious and no-holds-barred show that will leave viewers open-mouthed with stories of ridiculous and questionable behaviour."
Casting for the series is now underway, with those aged 18 and above seeking to apply able to do so via an online form
