  • Lucy Punch, Joanna Lumley and Philippa Dunne have reportedly signed up to make a six-part second series of Amandaland
  • The spin-off from Motherland has become a ratings hit since it launched early in February, with over 4 million tuning in
  • It should be noted the BBC has not officially confirmed the second series yet

Amandaland, the sitcom spin-off from Motherland, has reportedly been commissioned for a second series.

The comedy, which stars Lucy Punch, is currently airing its first series on BBC One on Wednesday nights. The show launched on 5th February and 7-day viewing figures for television devices show the first episode is the most-watched launch for a new BBC One comedy series since Ghosts in 2019, with over 4 million viewers.

The Daily Star reports that work is underway on scripts for a six-part second series, with the episodes set to be filmed later this year.

The newspaper quotes a source as saying: "Almost five million Brits are hooked on Amandaland. It's become a massive hit. Top brass at the BBC want another series because they think it has the potential to become a mega hit. They think it could soon become even more popular than Motherland."

Lucy Punch, Joanna Lumley, who plays Amanda's mum, and Philippa Dunne, who plays Anne, have reportedly already signed up to reprise their characters in more episodes.

British Comedy Guide contacted the BBC for an official statement on whether the show had been recommissioned, however a spokesperson declined to comment.

Amandaland is created by Holly Walsh, Helen Serafinowicz, Barunka O'Shaughnessy and Sharon Horgan. When asked at a press screening whether the show would return for a Christmas special, Horgan said they're "not allowed to say".
