Taskmaster has won a prestigious international TV prize.

The programme was awarded the 2024 Rose d'Or Award for Comedy Entertainment.

Greg Davies and Alex Horne picked up the award at a ceremony, which took place at Kings Place in London on Monday night (2nd December). The event happened to be hosted by Series 13 Taskmaster contestant Sophie Duker.

The shortlist in the entertainment category had also featured Die Carolin Kekebus Show (Germany), Norway's Dumbfest (Norway), Rob & Romesh Vs F1 Monaco (UK), Thank God You're Here (Australia) and The Skewer: Three Twisted Years.

The Rose d'Or ('Golden Rose') awards have been running for 63 years, "celebrating excellence and innovation in international TV and audio programme-making". This year's awards highlighted achievements across 13 categories, with other British winners including Richard Gadd's drama Baby Reindeer and the revived Gladiators.

The Comedy Drama and Sitcom category, which featured The Gentlemen and We Are Lady Parts in the shortlist, was won by Norwegian format Dates In Real Life. Meanwhile Italian entertainer Rosario Fiorello was celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The full results across all categories can be seen via rosedor.com.

Awards chair Mark Rowland says: "The Rose d'Or Awards 2024 saw over 700 entries from 30 countries. It gets more competitive every year - and came down to an incredibly strong group of finalists and to these worthy winners. Thank you to everyone who entered and to our judges, who had to make very tough choices."

Series 19 of Taskmaster has already been filmed, for broadcast in 2025. Before that there will be another New Year special. Featuring David James, Hannah Fry, Martin Lewis, Melanie Blatt and Sue Johnston, it will be broadcast after Christmas.

Last week BCG reported that Alex Horne hopes to host a new American version of Taskmaster with Greg Davies. "With a bit of luck we're going to try again" he told author Chris Duke on his mental health podcast The Peer Project. "But ideally with Greg and me, or two American hosts. I just think we would have more control over it."

Horne also acknowledged that with the Taskmaster Live Experience in London's Docklands, which has just announced an extension of its run until 23rd February, Junior Taskmaster, the celebrity New Year version, an accompanying podcast, computer game and lots of other merchandise, "there's quite a lot of Taskmaster about, we don't want to dilute it too much. We don't want to have people getting sick of it. Or we don't want to appear like we're milking it, which I'm sure it does."
