Inside No. 9 is to be the focus of a celebratory, behind the scenes documentary on BBC Two this Christmas.

Inside No. 9: The Party's Over will feature interviews with creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton and fellow cast members, a decade on from the series beginning with an episode set at a party, Sardines.

Cameras were allowed into the making of the ninth and final series of the hit dark-anthology comedy drama, with the hour-long documentary promising "extensive candid moments" in the writers' room, make-up trailer, prop store and set design workshop, pledging "the perfect farewell" to the Rose d'Or and eight-time Comedy.co.uk Award-winning show.

Actors who appeared in the final series included Eddie Marsan, Natalie Dormer, Mark Bonnar, Susan Wokoma, Charlie Cooper, Matthew Kelly, Adrian Scarborough, Joel Fry and Hayley Squires. And the final episode alone, set at a wrap party for the show itself, was a who's who of illustrious former cast members.

A spin-off stage play, Inside No. 9 Stage/Fright, is to open in London's West End at Wyndham's Theatre in January. Shearsmith and Pemberton have said that it will continue the television show's blend of humour and horror.

"We want to use the different things a theatre show can offer in terms of comedy," they said. "A collective audience behaves very differently to a solitary one, the laughter builds and the shared enjoyment is infectious. So there'll definitely be some big comic moments, but also something a bit spooky and more dramatic."

Airing from 2014 to June this year, Inside No. 9 has been near-universally praised by critics, with the Guardian hailing it as "never less-than-captivating" and The Times calling it "the funniest, cleverest, most imaginative and original television I have seen for as long as I can remember - one of those fabulous programmes where time stands still and the world around you disappears".

Inside No. 9: The Party's Over is executive produced by Josh Cole for BBC Studios Comedy Productions (Mandy, Black Ops) and by Ben Padfield for Redwood Studios. It was commissioned by Jon Petrie, BBC director of comedy and the commissioning editor for the BBC is Gregor Sharp.

Shearsmith and Pemberton have also just announced a selection of official Inside No. 9 merchandise, including a range of Cheese & Crackers items commemorating the much-loved episode Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room.
