  • Scottish sitcom Dinosaur will be back for a second series
  • The comedy stars Ashley Storrie and Kat Ronney as a young autistic woman and her sister
  • Series 2 will consist of six new episodes and be filmed next year

Comedy Dinosaur, starring Ashley Storrie, is to return to BBC Three and BBC Scotland.

Focusing on an autistic woman battling life's changes as her sister and best friend gets married, Series 2 will film in 2025.

News of the recommission comes after the series picked up two BAFTA Scotland Awards this weekend, with co-creator and star Storrie picking up the Audience Award: Favourite Scot on Screen prize, and she and writer Matilda Curtis picking up the Writer Film/Television gong.

Filmed and set in Glasgow, Series 1 followed Nina (Ashley Storrie), an autistic woman in her 30s who adored her life living with her sister and best friend Evie. However, when Evie (Kat Ronney) rushed into an engagement after only six weeks and made Nina her maid of honour, Nina was floored. Forced to reconcile with her sister's impulsive decision, Nina grappled with what this new challenge meant, which led to a surprising journey of self-discovery, saw her explore her own love interest and consider a move away from her hometown for a job promotion.

Producers Two Brothers Pictures and the BBC say: "At its core, Dinosaur is a series about sisterhood, love, friendship and being yourself, no matter how uncomfortable that might make others."

Ashley Storrie says: "I'm dead chuffed that the amazing team that brought Series 1 to life has been recognised by our peers in the Scottish film and television industry and I'm so excited that we're getting to share more of Nina and her family's journey. Who knows, there might be actual dinosaurs this time round..."

Matilda Curtis adds: "I'm so grateful for the chance to get back into Nina's world again for Series 2. Dinosaur is the best cast and crew working at the top of their game and I'm over the moon the show has been recognised by BAFTA Scotland!"

Sarah Hammond, executive producer of Dinosaur and Chief Creative Officer of Two Brothers Pictures, says: "Wow. We are beyond grateful to be celebrating the wonderful double whammy of news that is Dinosaur's BAFTA wins alongside the green light on Series 2. This show is so close to our hearts at Two Brothers and we are so thrilled for Ashley and Matilda, whose hard work and talent has been justly recognised with this double win. Thank you to BAFTA, the BBC and all those involved for championing our little show - pinky hugs all round!"

Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning at BBC Scotland said: "What a joy to be bringing the BAFTA award-winning Dinosaur back for a second series. The whole team both in front and behind the camera have created a warm, funny and poignant series and we're delighted their hard work has been recognised by the industry with these award wins. Audiences loved getting to know Nina, played so brilliantly by Ashley, and being invited into her world with all its twists and turns. We're excited to find out where Nina's journey has taken her and her family and friends in Series 2."

Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy said: "Nina's world has so much more to offer and it's a joy to dive back in alongside Ashley and Matilda. Their dedication to Dinosaur has made it something truly special. Huge thanks to everyone at Two Brothers for making this possible, we can't wait to continue this journey."

Series 2 will consist of a further six 30-minute episodes. Series 1, which aired in April this year after a 2021 pilot, is currently available to watch on iPlayer
