The Scotts axed? Fans lobby BBC Scotland for revival
- The Scotts co-creator Robert Florence has suggested that the BBC Scotland mockumentary has ended after three series
- However, the BBC maintain that the door remains open for the dysfunctional Glaswegian dynasty to return in the future
- Meanwhile, Florence and Iain Connell are reprising their Burnistoun characters Peter and Scott live, ahead of a possible film spin-off from the sketch show
The Scotts looks set to end after co-creator Robert Florence suggested that the BBC Scotland mockumentary would not be returning.
Directing fans to the three existing series of the spoof reality show on iPlayer, Florence posted on social media last night: "I loved doing this. It's nice that you can catch it all from start to finish whenever you like.
"Pilot is a bit patchy, still finding our feet. Gets better as it goes. Amazing cast made all the difference. It was fun!"
However, a BBC Scotland spokesperson told British Comedy Guide that the door was still open for the dysfunctional Glaswegian dynasty to return for further episodes.
"The Scotts won't be returning for a fourth series this year," they confirmed. "We've stood down the film crew that followed one of Scotland's most outrageous families ... for now at least.
"In the meantime, there are lots of new comedy series to look forward to in the coming months with Stevens & McCarthy, Only Child and The Chief on the horizon."
Running for 18 episodes on BBC One Scotland between 2020 and 2023, The Scotts is written by and strars Florence and his long-time collaborator Iain Connell, the pair having previously created the cult BBC sketch show Burnistoun.
Florence and Connell appear as squabbling brothers Vincent and Henry Scott in the sitcom, with Louise McCarthy (Stevens & McCarthy) as their sister Colette, leading a cast that also includes Sharon Young, Shauna MacDonald, Taylor Stewart, Lee Greig, Amy Leith, Barbara Rafferty and stand-up Jamie MacDonald.
Although The Scotts has been largely overlooked by the press, fans responded to Florence's post by calling for a fourth series. @maureenmcranor commented: "Sad it's finished, was really looking forward to Collette's wedding. That would have been hilarious."
Calling it the "best Scottish sitcom since Still Game", @Gwiggss added: "The pilot episode is one of my favourites, was delighted when it got added to the iPlayer."
Florence and Connell are currently reprising their Burnistoun characters Peter and Scott for four work-in-progress live shows at the Barras Art And Design venue in Glasgow, beginning Friday, developing storylines for a potential spin-off film.
Speaking to BCG in 2021, Florence revealed that the film's working title was Peter & Scott's Dark Night Of The Soul.
Tickets for the live dates are available now.
