Phil Wang is releasing his second Netflix special next month, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
Wang In There, Baby! launches on the streaming platform on 3rd September after two years of touring internationally.
Filmed in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare's Globe in London during its final two performances in April, the hour-long show features Wang reflecting on the fear of reheating rice, being British, being Asian, octopuses, America and the trappings of minor fame. The comic made his film debut last year with a singing role in the cinematic blockbuster Wonka.
Wang In There, Baby!'s release follows his 2021 Netflix special, Philly Philly Wang Wang. He has also just portrayed the philosopher Aristotle in the streamer's science-fiction drama 3 Body Problem and previously appeared at the 2022 Netflix Is A Joke Festival in Los Angeles.
The fourth British act to release a Netflix special this year, after Jack Whitehall, Jimmy Carr and Fern Brady, Wang has further raised his profile internationally with a recurring role in Amy Schumer's US comedy-drama Life & Beth, in which he plays an MRI technician with aspirations to become a renowned DJ, though it was announced that the series was cancelled after two seasons last month.
Also in July, it was revealed that Radio 4 has ordered a full series of the word-based panel show Unspeakable, hosted by Wang alongside 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown lexicographer and etymologist Susie Dent.
Wang In There, Baby! is produced by Wang's management company Avalon (Taskmaster, Starstruck) and executive produced by the comic, alongside Richard Allen-Turner, Julien Matthews and Jon Thoday.
