- Ricky Gervais is working on an animated TV series about "a bunch of cats"
- His After Life co-stars Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan and Tony Way voice characters in the new show
Ricky Gervais is helming a new animated series about "a bunch of cats", a project that sees him reunited with many of the actors who appeared on After Life.
He has posted a picture on social media of the cast recording their lines for the show.
The image reveals many of the actors who appeared alongside him in After Life have roles in the new project. Pictured at the microphones are Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan and Tony Way.
Also featured in the picture are Him & Her star Ricky Champ and former EastEnders actor Natalie Cassidy.
The title of his new project has yet to be revealed, and it has not yet been confirmed whether it is for Netflix, the streaming service he has close ties with. Netflix will show Mortality in 2025, the comedian's latest stand-up special, which will be recorded during his forthcoming tour of the same name.
It was last year that Gervais revealed that his next TV project will be an animated series. Answering an online question, he said: "We started it, and it's gonna take a long time 'cos it's animation. It won't be finished until next year [2024]. I don't think there's anything like it. I did animation 'cos I thought, 'I'm getting old now' and filming is a hard slog. I thought, 'Animation, that's easy.' It's not. I've been a fool."
Gervais previously voiced a cat in 2020 animated film The Willoughbys. He has also revealed on social media during the last week that 160 million people around the world have now watched After Life.
