Hullraisers ends after two series
- Channel 4 sitcom Hullraisers will not return for a third series
- The Sun quotes a source as saying the comedy is 'two and done'
- Launched in 2022, Hullraisers starred Leah Brotherhead, Taj Atwal and Sinead Matthews
Channel 4 has declined to order a third series of Hullraisers, the sitcom starring Leah Brotherhead, Taj Atwal and Sinead Matthews as three women living and working in Hull.
The comedy, which launched in 2022 before returning for a second series in 2023, "explores the hilarious and agonising reality of what it is to be a working class woman juggling work, kids, demanding friends, family and frustrating parents from the school playground - all whilst trying to have some fun too".
An adaptation of Israeli show Little Mom, the scripts were written by Lucy Beaumont, Anne Marie O'Connor and Caroline Moran.
The Sun's TV editor Rod McPhee reports: "It's not often a UK comedy cracks America - never mind a quirky Channel 4 offering without a big-name cast. So everyone was chuffed when Hullraisers not only made it to Series 2, but was also picked up by IFC, a sister channel to US giant Bravo. But I can reveal that the gang won't be reunited for a third series, with a source saying the show is 'two and done'."
Speaking in an interview before the show launched, Beaumont said: "I'm trying to make comedy out of an area that's massively underrepresented. What Hull needs is role models that are successful and entrepreneurial. It's not a hard northern town. It's actually really creative, really European and there's a young energy there. It's been a tremendous weight on my shoulders. My granddad was a painter and my mum writes. They're working class but they're creative. It was important to me that the main character was very arty, but a bit stuck."
British Comedy Guide has approached Channel 4 for a comment.
