Channel 5's Milkshake! strand will air Stan & Gran, an animated comedy series aimed at preschoolers.

Created by Jon Mason, the "funny and heart-warming CG animated series" follows the mystery-busting adventures of 7-year-old wildlife enthusiast Stan Breakwater and his 71-year-old dynamic Gran, as together they investigate the mysterious goings-on in the fictional British coastal town of Porthole.

Below is a teaser trailer for the format:

52 episodes, each eleven minutes long, are being made by Jellyfish Pictures, the animation studio that previously created CBeebies show Bitz & Bob.

Horrible Histories writer Howard Read, of Big Howard Little Howard fame, is the lead writer on the project.

Talking about the educational content in the show, the producers say: "This charming series showcases the strength and importance of intergenerational friendships and the special bond children share with their grandparents. Stan's love of wildlife, his natural curiosity and vivid imagination promotes exploration, discovery and science. Plus, the way that Stan carefully solves each mystery highlights the importance of critical thinking and encourages deductive reasoning."

Julia Rowlands, who is selling the rights internationally, says: "Children's unique relationships with their grandparents is a poignant, universal theme that resonates with global audiences and cultures. Stan & Gran layers this brilliantly with comedy and charm, which is striking a chord with our buyers worldwide."

Managing director of Jellyfish, Natalie Llewellyn, comments: "Moving into production is a major milestone for Jellyfish Originals and represents the culmination of over five years of tireless development, distribution, and financing efforts. We are thankful to key stakeholders such as Jollywise, Xentrix, Banijay and Milkshake! for their belief and commitment to this project, and we look forward to working together to deliver a high-quality animated series with global appeal."
