The Mind Of Herbert Clunkerdunk, the comedy series created by and starring Spencer Jones, has been cancelled after two series.

The Daily Mail reports: "Not even an appearance by the genius that is Vic Reeves has been able to save quirky BBC Two comedy The Mind Of Herbert Clunkerdunk. The show, nominated for a BAFTA in 2019 and starring Spencer Jones as wannabe stand-up Clunkerdunk, has been ditched after two series."

Noted for its inventive use of props and music, the comedy was created around the character Jones portrayed in his 2017 Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated live show.

A trial episode of the TV format was broadcast in 2018 as part of the BBC Comedy Feeds pilot strand, before being commissioned as a series in 2019. A second series of five episodes followed in January 2022.

The ten episodes co-starred Lucy Pearman as his partner Bobby Kindle, with Dominic Coleman as neighbour Jonny Wallop. The creator's children, Winona and Sonny, were also cast in the show as the character's kids.

The cancellation follows on from the cancelation of Mister Winner, the BBC One sitcom in which the comedian played an eternally optimistic klutz, with Pearman portraying his wife in that sitcom too.

Spencer Jones is now the lead writer on ITVX impressionist project Deep Fake Neighbour Wars. A preview video was released on Thursday, with Jones saying "I hope the famous people in the show have a laugh at our versions of them. We just wanted to make a silly show reimagining them as everyday people! But now I have seen the quality of the deep fake results, I am worried about the future of humanity."

All episodes of The Mind Of Herbert Clunkerdunk are still on BBC iPlayer. Meanwhile live special Spencer Jones: The Things We Leave Behind is on Amazon Prime as part of the Soho Theatre Live offering.
