'Prince Andrew: The Musical' to air on Channel 4
- Kieran Hodgson has written and will star in Prince Andrew: The Musical
- The hour-long satirical comedy will air on Channel 4 later this year
- The programme will focus on the "key events, relationships, and controversies of Andrew's life"
Channel 4 has commissioned Prince Andrew: The Musical, an hour-long satirical comedy written by and starring Kieran Hodgson.
Described as a "satirical send-up of the life and times of the duke set to a musical score", the special has been commissioned as part of the channel's 40th birthday programming.
Hodgson, who plays Gordon in Two Doors Down, has previously worked with Channel 4 on How Europe Stole My Mum and How We Forgot To Save The Planet.
Featuring original music by Freddie Tapner and made by Have I Got News For You producers Hat Trick, the 60 minute musical will focus on "key events, relationships, and controversies of Andrew's life".
It's been confirmed the comedy will include a 'reimagining' of the Duke's 2019 Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis.
Prince Andrew: The Musical is one of a number of commissions announced by Channel 4 today for its own 40th birthday programming strand, Truth Or Dare. Other commissions include Frankie Boyle focusing on the monarchy, the return of Friday Night Live, and a programme about free expression hosted by Jimmy Carr.
Channel 4's Ian Katz says: "This season shows that Channel 4 is still as mischievous, disruptive and distinctive as when it was born 40 years ago. Instead of a nostalgia-thon of highlights from the last four decades, we are celebrating with a collection of irreverent, thought-provoking and hugely entertaining shows that no other broadcaster would air. If we must age, we plan to do it disgracefully."
