Angelos Epithemiou to host own comedy series
Angelos Epithemiou, the comedy character made famous by his appearances on Shooting Stars, has been awarded his own TV series.
Created and performed by Dan Renton Skinner, Angelos is a burger van proprietor, and became the official scorekeeper on the anarchic Reeves & Mortimer quiz show Shooting Stars after Matt Lucas left the series in 2010.
Now, Channel 4 has commissioned a full series of The Angelos Neil Epithemiou Show, just days after Shooting Stars was cancelled by BBC Two.
A pilot was due to be broadcast as part of Channel 4's Comedy Showcase, but is now likely to be held back to form part of the series proper, which is expected to broadcast toward the latter half of 2012.
Produced by Vic and Bob's own company, Pett Productions, The Angelos Neil Epithemiou Show is described as a "studio-based comedy entertainment show", featuring "a full menu of slapstick, jokes, high energy dancing, catchy singing and sophisticated magic", in which the audience are invited to "join a modern day clown living in an oversized world of pure fun".
A previous radio pilot, Angelos Epithemiou's Real Lives, was broadcast during Radio 4's 2010 pilots strand, Happy Tuesdays.
The following sketch, from the most recent series of Shooting Stars, features Angelos as an injured soldier during WWI.
