Goddesses, the forthcoming darkly comic debut novel from Nina Millns, is to become a TV series.

People Just Do Nothing and Bloods producers Roughcut Television "fought off stiff competition" to adapt the story for the screen.

Goddesses is a darkly comic novel about Ayesha, a mixed-race stand-up comedian who finds herself entangled with a group of powerful feminist activists, and what happens when someone dares to challenge the status quo... all set at a hen party in a remote mansion.

Described as a "thriller, satire and social takedown all rolled into one", the book will be published by Simon & Schuster in June 2023.

Nina Millns comments: "I was blown away by the scope of Roughcut's vision for Goddesses and couldn't get it out of my mind. The incredibly detailed depth of understanding for each character and their journey, as well as the themes and the message of the story, went beyond anything I could have envisioned and shows such potential and ambition. I can't wait to bring Ayesha and the crew to life."

Publisher Hannah Weatherill adds: "We're so excited for the world to discover Nina and her glorious characters. Goddesses's exploration of power and belonging in the world of activism - who's invited into the circle, and the dark consequences of daring to challenge the status quo - is incisive, warm, and blisteringly funny. It was immediately clear that Roughcut really understood Nina's vision for the book and had an ambitious plan to realise it."

Marianna Abbotts from Roughcut comments: "Nina Millns is a vibrant, fresh, new voice and we fell in love with her writing from the first page. The way she combines dark comedy with a compelling, exhilarating thriller makes Goddesses an exciting and relevant story for today. We can't wait to bring Ayesha and all of Nina's powerful characters to the screen."
