Freddie Flintoff is quitting A League Of Their Own after 12 years.

The Sky panel show and its spin-off travelogue format have aired more than 140 episodes to date, with Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff having acted as a team captain throughout. Sixteen regular series have been produced, and the team has just finished filming a new spin-off series taking on physical challenges across Britain and Ireland.

Road Trip: Dingle To Dover will be the final to feature the former cricketer and current Top Gear co-host when it airs later this year.

Posting on his Instagram account, Flintoff explained: "It's been 12 years, 16 series, 6 road trips across America & Europe, 2 BAFTAs and a mud bath I'd rather forget, but now the time has come to leave the amazing ALOTO team."

He added: "I'd like to say a huge thanks to all of you who tuned in over the years and to everyone I have worked with on the show - what an unforgettable journey it's been."

His departure is not the first change of personnel to hit the popular panel show. James Corden was the format's original host, leaving after fourteen series to concentrate on his US film and TV career; Jack Whitehall was a regular panellist from Series 5 to 12 but also left to focus on a burgeoning amount of film work; whilst original regulars Georgie Ainslie and John Bishop quit after five and six series, respectively.

Current host Romesh Ranganathan and opposing team captain Jamie Redknapp are expected to continue appearing in future series.

Filming for a seventeenth series is likely to begin early in the summer.

Sky and production company CPL are expected to reveal Flintoff's replacement later in 2022.
