Film adaptation announced for Benidorm
Benidorm, the hit ITV1 sitcom set in the popular Spanish resort, is set to be adapted for the big screen.
Having been penned by Derren Litten during its first four series, a fifth run is currently being filmed with contributions from other writers, and production company Tiger Aspect are now on the lookout for A-list stars to continue the show's tradition of top-name cameos for a big-screen outing.
Big names to have appeared in the TV series to date include Confessions films star Robin Askwith, Cilla Black, George & Mildred's Brian Murphy, and Louie Spence. Joan Collins is amongst the names expected to feature in Series 5.
A source purportedly told The Sun newspaper: "The show's creators don't want to make a big screen version just for the sake of it. They want to ensure the high standard is maintained."
The fifth series is expected to broadcast early in 2012, with the film - if it does go ahead - hitting screens in 2013. Production company Tiger Aspect, also behind films such as the big-screen Mr Bean adaptations, is likely to be hoping to recreate the success of The Inbetweeners Movie earlier this year, which sat at the top of the box office for 4 weeks following its mid-August release.
