Sky has confirmed the return of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, with Greg Davies installed as the new host.

As first revealed by British Comedy Guide, the music-based panel show is due to return after having been off air since 2014.

Noel Fielding continues as a team captain in the new Sky version, going up against new captain Daisy May Cooper. Jamali Maddix has also signed up as a regular panellist.

The new series will begin airing this autumn on Sky One and streaming platform NOW. Sky has ordered eight 45 minute episodes, plus a Christmas special.

Greg Davies says: "I have always loved Never Mind The Buzzcocks and am thrilled to be the new host on Sky. We have brilliant comedic talent on the team and plenty of exciting musical guests will be joining us. All that being said, I'm so sure that no one reads these press quotes in their entirety that I'm going to finish by listing types of bread: rye, sourdough, sliced white. Oh, and cob."

The music-focused panel show originally aired on BBC Two for 28 series between 1996 and 2015, when it was cancelled in order to "create space for new entertainment formats".

The first 17 series were hosted by Mark Lamarr, followed by Simon Amstell, then later by a number of guest presenters, before Rhod Gilbert chaired the final series. Phill Jupitus was a team captain for the entirety of its 18-year broadcast, facing off against Sean Hughes, Bill Bailey and Noel Fielding.

Talking about taking on the well-known comedy format, Sky commissioner Phil Edgar-Jones says: "Buzzcocks is one of those truly iconic shows and to be bringing it back with Greg Davies at the helm, alongside Daisy May Cooper, Noel Fielding and Jamali Maddix is a buzz and a treat for lovers of tuneless humming everywhere."

Kate Edmunds from producers Talkback says: "We're over the moon that Sky have made the very wise decision to reboot our beloved Buzzcocks. Musicians, stand down, we hear your deafening cries for some long overdue attention. The outrageously talented Greg, Daisy, Noel and Jamali are more than happy to oblige."

Greg Davies will continue to host Taskmaster. Noel Fielding, Daisy May Cooper and Jamali Maddix all appeared before him on the Channel 4 challenge show. Davies is also set to star in forthcoming BBC One sitcom The Cleaner, and Safe Space, Sky One's new comedy drama about a psychotherapist.
