  • A League Of Their Own Series 16 starts on Sky One in August, with Romesh Ranganathan as host
  • Having guest presented episodes in the last series, Ranganathan is now officially taking over from James Corden
  • Romesh says: "I'm looking forward to being back in the studio with Jamie, Freddie, our guests and the live audience"

Romesh Ranganathan is to take over from James Corden as host of Sky One's A League Of Their Own.

The sports-based panel show is about to begin filming its sixteenth series, with producers confirming that - due to continuing work commitments in America - Corden is now stepping down as host.

Corden last hosted Series 13, in 2018. Series 14 in 2019 was hosted by guest presenters, with Series 15 last year guest presented mainly by Ranganathan. Now he will formerly present all eight episodes in Series 16.

Sky confirm: "Romesh has been a regular panellist on the BAFTA-winning show since 2018 and will bring more of his dry wit and deadpan takedowns to proceedings."

Talking about the new episodes, the producers say: "Longstanding team captains Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp return to go head-to-head again this summer. Guests this year include FA Cup winner Jamie Vardy, Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis and football pundit Micah Richards with plenty more stars from the world of sports and entertainment to be announced."

Romesh Ranganathan says: "I'm over the moon to be taking over the hosting duties and looking forward to being back in the studio with Jamie, Freddie, our guests and the live audience. I'm truly honoured to be the new host of such a successful show. I know Jamie and Freddie are delighted because they often talk about what a hero I am to both of them."

Filming on Series 16 of A League Of Their Own starts at Elstree Studios on 5th July, with a socially distanced audience in attendance.

The eight new episodes will be broadcast on Sky One from August.

It's a busy year for Ranganathan. It was announced on Wednesday that he will present a series about hip hop on BBC Radio 2 this August, whilst yesterday new BBC Two show The Misinvestigations Of Romesh Ranganathan was revealed.

Rob And Romesh Vs is due to return to Sky One in July for Olympic specials, and The Ranganation - the comedian's topical show for which he recently won a BAFTA - is due to return later this year too.
