Sindhu Vee pilots sitcom Winning for Channel 4
- Sindhu Vee is working on a loosely autobiographical sitcom for Channel 4
- Winning focuses on a mixed-race family with a domineering mother
- A taster pilot was recently filmed in London
Sindhu Vee is making a domestic sitcom pilot for Channel 4, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
The loosely autobiographical comedy is focused on a mixed-race family and stars Vee as a domineering mother, with her husband played by Danish actor Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve, The Bridge).
A taster for Winning was recently shot in London and is being produced by Roughcut (Stath Lets Flats, People Just Do Nothing). Vee wrote the script with London-based Canadian comedian Monica Heisey (Schitt's Creek).
Born Sindhu Venkatanarayanan in India, former Edinburgh Comedy Award best newcomer nominee Vee is married to a Danish banker, has three children and lives in London. Her stand-up has reflected upon the battle of the sexes within marriage and the need to ruthlessly "win" arguments at all costs for the good of the family "unit", a routine she performed on Live At The Apollo in 2019.
The pilot's director is Sam Leifer (Plebs, Gap Year), the producers are Bertie Peek (Top Coppers) and Alex Smith (Jerk) and Ash Atalla (The Office) is executive producer.
Last month it was announced that she has joined the cast of the new movie version of Roald Dahl's Matilda, based on Tim Minchin's musical, and will play Mrs Phelps, the librarian.
Her acting credits include Rose Matafeo's Starstruck, currently airing on BBC One, Feel Good and Sex Education, as well as Sindhu Vee's Live And Let Love, a 2018 comedy short she made with Roughcut for Sky Arts, co-starring Shelley Conn, Adam Leese and comedian Jeff Mirza.
Vee is currently set to resume her stand-up tour Alphabet in Huddersfield on the 11th of September.
A Channel 4 spokesperson declined to comment on BCG's Winning story.
