Stath Lets Flats to be remade in America
- American TV network Fox is working on its own version of Stath Lets Flats
- Bren Rents is being adapted by The Good Place writer and producer Joe Mande
- Meanwhile Series 3 Jamie Demetriou's sitcom is expected to be shown on Channel 4 in 2021
US network Fox is to remake hit Channel 4 sitcom Stath Lets Flats.
The channel is now developing Bren Rents, a sitcom focusing on "an incompetent rental agent".
Deadline reports the new version is being overseen by stand-up comedian, actor and writer Joe Mande. His previous TV projects include working as a writer and producer on The Good Place, playing Morris Lerpiss in Parks And Recreation, and writing episodes of Modern Family, in which he also appeared as the character Ben.
The Channel 4 sitcom, which launched in 2013 as a Comedy Blap pilot, won three Baftas this year, including best scripted comedy and best writer and male performance for its star and creator Jamie Demetriou (pictured).
In October, Channel 4 confirmed Series 3 is to be made. Referring to the plot of the six new episodes due to be filmed, Channel 4 said: "Incompetent letting agent Stath is faced with rescuing the family business, Michael & Eagle, and his relationship with Katia, while expecting his first child by Carole. Meanwhile his sister, Sophie, and best friend, Al, deal with the fallout of finally declaring their feelings for each other."
Meanwhile the character of Stath, commenting on Series 3's commission, said: "Thank you so truly for this energetically and development news. I never seen something on Channel For (4) in my life, but someone told me they done a programme about people being embarrassed about their body. Which is a shame. I'm proud of my body, even though my eyebrow is a bit too wide and I'm panickin' it's joinin' to my head hair."
Demetriou and UK producer Ash Atalla will act as executive producers on the new American version, alongside Joe Mande.
Fox is also currently working on a remake of This Country. As revealed in October the network has ordered 14 episodes of their new version of the BBC Three hit, which is being overseen by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig.
It is not currently clear whether Bren Rents will be broadcast on Fox, or whether it is an internal pilot project.
In the meantime, the first series of the UK version is available for US audiences to stream via HBO Max.
Series 3 of Stath Lets Flats is expected to be filmed next year.
