Jack Whitehall takes to the road in new stand-up series
Jack Whitehall is to tour the country in a new stand-up series for Channel 4, provisionally titled Hit The Road, Jack.
After a non-broadcast pilot was filmed in Basildon, Essex, in March, the broadcaster has ordered a six-part series of the new format, in which Whitehall not just performs in a different town on each show, but also arrives with no arranged accommodation. A total stranger to the area, he must find a member of the public willing to put him up in their home.
Each episode will then see Whitehall visit local comedians and celebrities, before performing in a local venue, temporarily transformed into a studio.
Entertainment commissioner Syeda Irtizaali said: "At only 23 years old Jack has already been entertaining Channel 4 viewers for years and this move to primetime with his own show is something for us all to celebrate. This new show will bring his razor-sharp brand of comedy to different places around the country with plenty of stunts, celebrity guests and fun with the locals. It's going to be a modern, irreverent snapshot of Britain from one of our rising stars."
Hit The Road, Jack will be produced by Magnum Media. Executive producer and managing director Andy Auerbach said: "It's very exciting for us to be working with Jack. He is incredibly funny, totally charming and, I'm told, rather good looking - the perfect package."
The series is planned for transmission later this year.
