  • Stand-up showcase Live At The Apollo will return later this month for a highlights series
  • Ten new programmes have been compiled from previously aired material over the past 98 episodes
  • Subtitled The One About..., the themed episodes will air from 20th August on BBC Two

Live At The Apollo will return at the end of August for a new series of highlights programmes.

Subtitled The One About..., each of the six episodes will present routine extracts on a different theme.

The series debuts on Thursday 20th August at 9pm, with the first programme themed on relationships.

Four highlights episodes have previously aired, two each in 2018 and 2019. The 2018 programmes celebrated female stand-ups, with 2019's coinciding with Pride to exhibit LGBT+ comic talent.

Angela Barnes, John Bishop, Ed Byrne, Gary Delaney, Laura Lexx, Sarah Millican, Tom Stade, Ellie Taylor and Phil Wang will all appear in the first episode.

As reported last month, the next new series of the stand-up showcase format has been delayed until 2021.

Filming was due to take place in the autumn for a fresh run of programmes, but producers Open Mike decided that it would not be possible to record the series under current social distancing guidelines amidst the international covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesperson confirmed: "In light of the current social distancing measures affecting theatres in the UK, Live At The Apollo will not be filmed this year. Whilst this news will be disappointing for viewers, the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the show is our number one priority. The good news is that Live At The Apollo will return bigger and brighter in 2021 for its 16th series, once again welcoming the cream of established and up-and-coming comedy stars to the Apollo stage."

Recorded at the iconic Hammersmith Apollo venue in west London, the series debuted in 2004 and was hosted for its first two series by comedian Jack Dee. A total of 98 original episodes have aired to date.
