- The British Comedy Society has announced a blue plaque for 'Allo 'Allo!
- An unveiling event will include a large reunion of surviving cast members
- It will take place on Saturday 7th September, at the filming location for Nouvion town square and Café René
Hit BBC comedy 'Allo 'Allo! is to be honoured with a blue plaque.
The British Comedy Society has announced plans to dedicate a plaque at the filming location for the show's town square, and the exterior of the primary setting, Café René.
Tickets are on sale now, priced at £55 per person. The event will also see the first ever full reunion of surviving cast members at the filming site, including the likes of Vicki Michelle (waitress Yvette), Richard Gibson (Herr Flick), and Kim Hartman (Helga).
Although set in a small town in northern France named Nouvion, location filming took place in north Norfolk, with a courtyard at the country house Lynford Hall standing in as the town square.
On Saturday 7th September 2019 - marking 35 years to the day since the first series debuted (following a successful pilot almost two years earlier) - the society will host the plaque's unveiling and a gala celebration of the sitcom in aid of the Actors' Benevolent Fund.
Festivities on the day are set to include a charity auction; a chance to meet and mingle with both the stars and other fans; a lunch; and speeches from the assembled special guests.
'Allo 'Allo! debuted with a pilot episode at Christmas 1982, with the first series launching on 7th September 1984. It became an international smash hit, spawning a stage show, books, and record releases, and ran for 9 series, concluding in 1992 after 85 episodes.
Created by Jeremy Lloyd and co-written with producer/director David Croft, it continued the pair's huge success from Are You Being Served?.
Lynford Hall, now a hotel and events venue, was also seen in a number of Croft's other period sitcoms, such as Dad's Army and You Rang, M'Lord?. The nearby small town of Thetford was also the primary filming location of Dad's Army's town scenes, and Croft lived within the region.
