The Midnight Beast, a musical comedy trio, have been given their own TV series on E4.

Stefan Abingdon, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne have notched up over 33 million hits on YouTube, and have tens of thousands of followers on Facebook and Twitter.

The upbeat and likeable young trio became a global phenomenon when they posted their video parody of pop star Ke$ha's hit song Tik Tok on YouTube in December 2009 (below).

The group have since created a number of other hit videos and have been booked to perform at various festivals around the UK, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds.

The trio recorded a non-broadcast trial episode of their TV show earlier this year, and Channel 4 Comedy Commissioning Editor Nerys Evans has now ordered a full series. The show will be produced by Warp Films and Cuba Comedy, and overseen by producer Mary Burke, whose previous credits include MTV puppet sitcom Fur TV, and the films Bunny and the Bull and Richard Ayoade's Submarine.

The Midnight Beast will film the series later this year, to be shown on E4 in early 2012.
