ITV has commissioned a fifth series of its 'sun, sangria and sex' ensemble sitcom Benidorm from production company Tiger Aspect.

Despite announcing his quitting the show in February, creator/writer Derren Litten has jumped back aboard after finding out that Joan Collins would love to appear in the series. Her younger sister, novelist Jackie Collins, contacted him via Twitter to say that she had got Joan addicted to the sitcom, to which he reacted: Joan Collins in Benidorm??!! I ain't gonna let ANYONE else write that. Looks like I'm coming back...

However, Litten will no longer write the show single-handedly. He will be joined by 'a number of other top comedy writers' in penning Series 5, expected to film later this year on location in the popular Spanish resort.

Series 4 of Benidorm recently finished broadcasting on ITV1 on Friday nights, where it has been bringing in big ratings for the network. Last Friday's episode was watched by 5.62 million viewers, giving the channel a lucrative 24% audience share.

Further transmission and cast details for Series 5 have yet to be confirmed.
