Dizzee Rascal sitcom said to be under consideration
Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, the writers behind E4's The Inbetweeners, have reportedly been in talks with East London rapper Dizzee Rascal about a possible collaboration. The writers are said to be interested in Rascal's life, and in particular his rise to fame in the clubs of London's East End.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Damon and Iain like the idea of making a funny show about a rapper. Urban artists are usually portrayed in negative or bleak circumstances but they want to do something different. Dizzee is a big personality with loads of charisma and the writers think he would be the ideal subject for the show. It's just a question of whether or not he has the acting ability to pull it off."
Dizzee Rascal, whose real name is Dylan Mills, has made no secret about his ambition to embark on an acting career, having previously stated that he wished to be the first black man to play the role of James Bond.
However, at this point it is not clear whether he will appear in any commissioned series, or merely provide stories and inspiration to base episodes on.
Urban music has been the focus of sitcom in the past, most recently with the poorly received BBC Three series Trexx And Flipside
