Miranda wins at Royal Television Society Awards
BBC sitcom Miranda won two Royal Television Society Awards last night, with Horrible Histories, Getting On and The Indian Doctor also picking up accolades.
Miranda Hart's sitcom won the award for "Scripted Comedy", with Hart herself winning the award for best "Comedy Performance". Hart said at the ceremony: "I'm really thrilled because I don't really like writing - I find it really hard work."
Also on the night, popular children's sketch show Horrible Histories picked up the award for the best "Children's Programme"; BBC One comedy drama The Indian Doctor, starring Sanjeev Bhaskar, won the "Daytime or Early-Peak Programme" award; and Jo Brand, Vicki Pepperdine and Joanna Scanlan picked up the "Writer (Comedy)" gong for BBC Four comedy drama Getting On.
Ant and Dec won the award for "Entertainment Performance", beating Charlie Brooker and Graham Norton.
The "Lifetime Achievement Award" was given to comedy agent and founder of independent production company Tiger Aspect, Peter Bennett-Jones.
