Al Murray making comedy quiz show for channel Dave
Al Murray is in talks to host a comedy quiz show for digital channel Dave in character as his famous Pub Landlord persona.
Work is currently underway to create a pilot episode of Compete For The Meat - "a game show like no other". The format, which is based on the live quiz show that Murray hosted during last year's Edinburgh Festival, sees the winning team walk away with a frozen chicken. There's economy sausages for the runners up and 'nothing but shame' for the losers.
The show is being produced by Avalon Television, the company behind Al Murray's Happy Hour, Not Going Out and Harry Hill's TV Burp.
The comedian is staging regional qualifiers to find members of the public to take part in the TV show. These will take place at The Hare and Hounds in Birmingham on Monday 14th and the Frog and Bucket in Manchester on Tuesday 15th. For free entry to these comedy nights see our tickets page
Al Murray's Compete For The Meat is one of a number of new original formats that TV channel Dave is considering commissioning later this year. Other new shows from Dave in the pipeline include an improvised comedy show that uses green screen technology, hosted by Mark Watson.
Meanwhile, on Thursday 10th February 2011, Murray will be recording a one-off episode of My Funniest Year for Channel 4. Previously hosted by Rufus Hound, the stand-up show sees the host joking about events that happened in a particular year. In Murray's case, this will be 1997.
