Barbara Windsor to be next guest on A Comedy Roast
Channel 4's A Comedy Roast will be 'toasting' Barbara Windsor, the actress best known for her roles in the Carry On films and for her long stint on EastEnders. Windsor played Peggy Mitchell in the BBC soap opera from 1994 until last month, when her character left Albert Square after a fire at The Queen Vic pub.
A Comedy Roast is a relatively new show for Channel 4 which follows the US tradition of comedians gathering together in front of a live audience to make fun of a subject. While the tone may seem cutting, sarcastic or salacious, at its heart, the 'roast' is in fact a genuine and affectionate celebration of the talent. The previous 'targets' in the UK version have been Bruce Forsyth, Sharon Osbourne, Chris Tarrant and - last week - Davina McCall.
Barbara Windsor's episode will be filmed on Wednesday night, for broadcast shortly. As always, the show will be hosted by Jimmy Carr, with a number of stand-up comedians as well as a selection of Windsor's showbiz pals and acquaintances taking it in turns to deliver humorous, irreverent, sometimes rude, but affectionate comedy tributes.
