Gavin & Stacey may return for new one-off special
Ruth Jones has confirmed plans are underway for a new one-off special of hit BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey.
Jones, who co-created the BAFTA-winning comedy with James Corden, revealed the news to fans attending a charity event in Barry, South Wales. She said: "There may be a special one day - it's being talked about." She added: "It looks like there will be a Gavin & Stacey special some time in the future. It will show how things worked out for Gavin and Stacey - and for Nessa and Smithy."
A source at production company Baby Cow told The Sun: "There are no plans for a new series but talks about a one-off special - perhaps for Christmas next year - are well under way."
A new one-off special has long been rumoured, ever since the creators ruled out writing a fourth series but said they would consider creating the occasional one-off special in the future. News that the production team are indeed considering a new episode is likely to delight many - the show has over 750,000 fans on Facebook, and the last new episode of the sitcom was watched by nearly 9 million viewers.
The final episode, which was broadcast on the 1st January 2010, saw Nessa making her way to the church to marry Dave Coaches, with the big question being whether or not Smithy - who clearly still loved the bride-to-be - would attempt to stop the wedding.
Most of the cast - including Joanna Page and Rob Brydon - have previously said publically they'd like to appear in more episodes, but there could be an obstacle in the way of the BBC making a new episode: James Corden is reportedly about to sign a three-year 'golden handcuffs' deal with ITV worth £6 million, which would see the star become one of the faces of the commercial network.
