Comedy Central commissions Amusical TV pilot
- A pilot episode of live comedy format Amusical is to be filmed by Comedy Central
- Hosted by Jayde Adams and Kiri Pritchard-McLean, the show sees comedians singing songs
- Frank Skinner and London Hughes will be amongst the guests taking part in September's pilot
Hit live comedy format Amusical is coming to television.
Comedy Central has ordered a half-hour pilot episode based on the popular show, which is performed for one night only as an annual staple of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
This year's performance takes place tonight (22nd August) at the Pleasance Courtyard venue.
The format sees "comedians perform their favourite songs from stage and screen", with the audience then deciding whose rendition was best.
Hosted by the stars of the stage version, Jayde Adams and Kiri Pritchard-McLean, it will also feature musical director Dave Cribb, and is to be recorded at London's prestigious Hackney Empire in front of a live audience next month.
Comedy Central explain: "The programme will feature comedians working up the courage to belt out their favourite number from a musical in front of a live audience."
Frank Skinner and London Hughes are amongst the guests who will be taking part in the pilot.
Louise Holmes from Comedy Central says: "I fell in love with Amusical as a stage show at Edinburgh last year and am so thrilled that we're able to bring it to the screen for the first time. With two of comedy's most dazzling leading ladies, Kiri and Jayde, at the helm, plus a stellar line up of guest comedians brave enough to be taken out of their comfort zones as they sing their hearts out, Amusical promises to be a gloriously entertaining treat of a show."
Amusical will be shown on Comedy Central later this year.
