- BBC Scotland's police-based mockumentary series Scot Squad is to return for Series 5
- Filming started today in the Strathblane area, with six new episodes being made
- All the key cast - including Jack Docherty as Chief Commissioner Miekelson - are due to return
BBC Scotland has ordered a fifth series of its spoof police mockumentary series, Scot Squad. Filming is now underway on six new episodes.
The network says: "Bams beware! Scot Squad is back on the beat with filming underway on the fifth series. The fictional law enforcers return for another arresting mix of comedy and crime in a new six-part series made by the Comedy Unit, filming in locations in around Scotland over the summer.
"Whether it's on patrol, on wheels, on the phone, in the interview room, in the city, in the country, down the station or in cyberspace - the Scot Squad have the skills to fix the ills and the heat to sort the beat. The force is led by a big boss who takes all the flack when he's under attack. This year Chief Commissioner Miekelson (played by Jack Docherty) is celebrating five years in post without being fired, sent onto gardening leave or being asked to resign."
Jack Docherty, Jordan Young, Sally Reid, Ashley Smith, Chris Forbes, Manjot Sumal, Graeme Stevely and Darren Connell are all confirmed as returning, as are Julie Wilson Nimmo and Louise McCarthy who joined the show last series as the station's new Detective Constables. Guest stars will be announced soon.
Filming on the series, which is again been overseen by director Ian Davidson, started in the Strathblane area today with Chris Forbes and Ashley Smith reprise their roles as rural police partners PC Charlie McIntosh and PC Jane MacKay.
Steve Carson, BBC Scotland's Head of Multi-Platform Commissioning, says: "It's great to be bringing an arresting series like Scot Squad back on the beat. We're all looking forward to the return of Chief Commissioner Miekelson and his McJustice league and seeing Scotland's finest law enforcers at their best."
Rab Christie, Executive Producer for The Comedy Unit, comments: "We are thrilled the McJustice League are back on duty, at Comedy Unit we're delighted to be shadowing the bravest law-enforces on the planet and snatching footage of the bams who make the good guys do their best work."
A Scot Squad spokesperson adds: "One silver lining of the current crime epidemic is that I've got enough source material to justify spending another summer in sunny Scotland."
Scot Squad Series 5 will be shown on TV later this year.
In a recent episode of the Sitcom Geeks podcast, Jack Docherty talks about the joys of the semi-improvised nature of Scot Squad. Listen
