Dad's Army is to be celebrated with a new blue plaque.

The British Comedy Society has announced plans to pay tribute to the iconic sitcom as it celebrates its 50th anniversary at the end of July.

In an event to raise money for the Actors' Benevolent Fund, the charitable group will dedicate a new plaque in Thetford, the Norfolk town where location filming for the comedy took place, on Saturday 21st July.

To be unveiled by Frank Williams, who played the Vicar in the fictional Walmington-on-Sea, the blue plaque is to be erected at the town's Bell Inn, a traditional English hotel and pub where the cast and crew stayed whilst filming the series nearby.

The society is now selling tickets for the event, including prosecco, a summer lunch, wine and entertainment.

Established in the early 1990s, this will be The British Comedy Society's 48th blue plaque. Dad's Army stars Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier were each rewarded with a plaque at their respective former homes in 1994.
