Benidorm's future questioned

The future of hit comedy series Benidorm has been called into question today.
Derren Litten, creator-writer of the ITV series, tweeted over the weekend to imply that the sitcom won't be coming back for an eleventh series. The final episode of Series 10 will be broadcast on Wednesday evening this week.
Litten said: "Crazy to think Wednesday will be the last episode of Benidorm! I created the series over 11 years ago, wrote it, guest starred in it and ended up directing it. It's difficult to think what else there is to do! Thank you for watching!"
However, British Comedy Guide understands that no decision has yet been made by channel bosses whilst Litten and the cast prepare for a highly-anticipated live stage show tour later this year.
Set in the eponymous Spanish holiday resort, the sitcom is a big hit for ITV. The current series has been attracting an average of nearly 4 million viewers per episode. These figures reflect only initial viewings on the first broadcast of each show, not including recordings, catch-up audiences, or viewings of repeats.
The continued success of the comedy means that ITV bosses are in fact likely to be keen to commission an eleventh series when possible.
Producers Tiger Aspect usually film the sitcom in Spring or Autumn, outside of the height of the holiday season when the Spanish resort is packed with real tourists, but whilst the weather remains inclement enough to pass off as Summer on screen. Meanwhile, the Benidorm Live tour has announced a schedule of almost eight full months, from early September 2018 until late April 2019.
The tour dates means that, even if ITV ordered Series 11 today, it would be unlikely to be able to film until Autumn 2019 at the earliest.
Clarification on the future of the sitcom is expected to be revealed later in the year. The final episode of Benidorm Series 10 will be broadcast at 9pm on Wednesday this week, with the full series released on DVD next Monday.
