Shooting Stars' Angelos Epithemiou gets a spin-off
Angelos Epithemiou, regular guest panellist character from BBC Two panel show Shooting Stars, looks set to get his own BBC radio series.
Angelos, a burger van owner who carries a plastic bag around with him wherever he goes, is to be at the centre of a Radio 4 pilot being recorded at the end of the month.
In Angelos Epithemiou's Big Issue, the character will be looking at one of the big issues of the day, with the help of some 'expert guests'. The pilot episode, being recorded at The Drill Hall in London, will focus on the environment. The description for the episode is: "Will Angelos be able to set the world to rights or will it end in meltdown?"
The character of Angelos was created by stand-up comedian and actor Dan Renton Skinner. The comic created the character on the live circuit but it was when Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer invited Skinner to become a regular on their surreal panel show Shooting Stars that the character became well-known with TV audiences.
Radio 4 has arranged for Sanjeev Kohli, Rufus Jones, Katy Wix and Tom Verrall to play the 'experts' that Angelos will be talking to in the radio pilot. Kohli appeared in a video with Angelos and Bob Mortimer recently (see below), whilst both Rufus Jones and Katy Wix appeared alongside Skinner in the Channel 4 Comedy Lab pilot MovieMash.
Dan Renton Skinner has previously written for shows such as School Of Comedy and That Mitchell & Webb Sound, and played ensemble parts in comedies such as The Armstrong & Miller Show and Katy Brand's Big Ass Show. He will also appear again on the new series of Shooting Stars, which is currently being filmed.
